ANYBODY LIVE NEXT TO A SUBDIVISION RETENTION POND?? FENCED OR NOT

SAW ON THE CITY NOTICES THAT THE COUNCIL TOOK UP ORDINANCE 2026-15, NEW SAFETY REQUIREMENTS FOR STORMWATER PONDS IN THE STORMWATER MANAGEMENT MANUAL. THE WAY IT READS ITS MEANT TO PROTECT KIDS AND RESIDENTS AND HONESTLY I'M GLAD SOMEBODY IS LOOKING AT IT. I'M OUT ON SHOBE ROAD SO NOT RIGHT ON ONE MYSELF BUT I WALK MY RESCUE DOGS THROUGH A COUPLE OF THE NEWER SUBDIVISIONS AND SOME OF THESE PONDS ARE JUST SITTING THERE WITH A STEEP BANK, NO FENCE, NO SIGN, NOTHING. AFTER A GOOD RAIN THEY GET DEEP FAST AND THE SIDES ARE SLICK MUD. MY OLDEST GIRL WENT STRAIGHT DOWN ONE BANK AFTER A DUCK LAST FALL AND IT TOOK ME A GOOD WHILE TO GET HER BACK UP, AND SHE'S A DOG, SHE CAN SWIM. A SMALL KID IS A WHOLE DIFFERENT STORY.

SO I'M CURIOUS WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE FROM THE PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY LIVE NEXT TO ONE. IS YOURS FENCED?? DO THE KIDS PLAY AROUND IT, FISH, THROW ROCKS, RIDE BIKES ALONG THE EDGE? WHO MOWS IT, THE HOA OR THE CITY OR NOBODY? AND DID ANYBODY EVER HAVE A SCARE?

NOT TRYING TO START A FIGHT OVER FENCES OR WHO PAYS FOR THEM, I KNOW THAT'S GOING TO COME UP. JUST WANT TO HEAR WHAT YOU'RE SEEING IN YOUR OWN NEIGHBORHOOD BEFORE I SAY ANYTHING TO THE COUNCIL. THANKS Y'ALL

no fence on the one behind my daughters place off Hwy 5. kids fish it all summer, little bluegill mostly, and the bank is steeper than it looks. HOA mows it when they remember to lol. never heard of a scare but I dont think a sign would hurt anything. only thing I worry about is who ends up payin for fences, always seems to land back on the taxpayer one way or another

not by one myself downtown but my boys team practices near one in a newer sub and foul balls go in there every game, kids just take off down the bank after them. Ive yelled at a few 😬 agree with Ronald a sign is cheap, doesnt need to be a whole fence fight. Thanks!

yeah thats the part that gets me, a kid chasin a ball dont look at the bank at all. my grandson would do the same thing. a sign and maybe some of that orange mesh fence at the bad spots wouldnt break anybodys bank. good on you for hollering at em, somebody has to

keith the slick mud is what worries me, after a rain that bank by the field is basicly a slide. no clue who mows it, I assume the HOA but I never see anybody out there. glad your dog was ok tho 🐶 if it hits a council agenda ill try to show up. Thanks!

RONALD THE ORANGE MESH IDEA IS EXACTLY THE KIND OF THING I WAS HOPING TO HEAR. NOBODY'S ASKING FOR A WROUGHT IRON FENCE AROUND EVERY POND IN BRYANT, JUST SOMETHING AT THE STEEP SPOTS AND A SIGN SO A PARENT KNOWS WHAT THEY'RE LOOKING AT. AND THE TAXPAYER WORRY IS FAIR, I'D WANT TO KNOW WHO FOOTS THE BILL TOO. MY GUESS IS IT DEPENDS ON WHETHER THE POND IS STILL THE DEVELOPER'S OR HOA'S OR HAS BEEN HANDED OFF TO THE CITY, AND I HONESTLY DON'T KNOW WHICH IT IS FOR MOST OF THEM. THAT'S PROBABLY THE FIRST QUESTION TO ASK THE COUNCIL.

THE FISHING PART STUCK WITH ME. KIDS OUT THERE ALL SUMMER WITH A POLE AND NOBODY EVER HAD A SCARE IS GOOD, BUT THAT'S ALSO HOW YOU END UP WITH ONE BAD DAY. A BANK THAT'S STEEPER THAN IT LOOKS DOES NOT CARE HOW MANY YEARS IT WENT FINE.

JORDAN, THANKS FOR OFFERING TO SHOW UP. IF I HEAR WHEN IT'S ON AN AGENDA I'LL POST IT HERE SO WE CAN ALL GO. EVEN A HANDFUL OF PEOPLE IN THE ROOM GETS NOTICED. MY GIRL IS FINE BY THE WAY, SMELLED LIKE A SWAMP FOR THREE DAYS BUT FINE.

Fished a few of those ponds over the years... that red clay bank gets slick as grease after a rain, and it's worse going back up than down. Jordan, maybe ask your league if the kids can stay put and let a coach fetch the foul balls. Free fix while the council sorts out the fence question...

Just my two cents
