Saw BYA is doing a sunset 5K and 10K run/walk on Bryant Parkway Nov. 7, money goes to the youth programs. Details here: MySaline: BYA sunset Parkway 5K/10K, Nov. 7

Too old to run it but I might walk the 5k.. slowly. Anybody know where your suppose to park? And is the Parkway shut down that evening or just a lane or two. Dont wanna get stuck in it with a pork butt in the truck bed lol. Anyone else going?

any 10k on the parkway is gonna close something, they're not running people down a bike lane. i'd just stay off it that evening and take the back way. didn't see parking listed on that page either, so maybe ask BYA directly.

ANA IS RIGHT, THEY'RE NOT GONNA RUN 10K PEOPLE DOWN THE PARKWAY WITH TRAFFIC GOING BY. USUALLY IT'S CONES AND A COUPLE OF OFFICERS AT THE CROSS STREETS, AND THE REAL MESS IS WHEN THEY OPEN IT BACK UP AND EVERYBODY RUSHES IN AT ONCE. I'VE WATCHED THAT HAPPEN AT PLENTY OF THE ROAD CLOSURES AROUND HERE. I'D PLAN ON LOSING THE WHOLE STRETCH FOR A GOOD WHILE AROUND THE START AND FINISH.

RONALD, IF YOU'RE WALKING THE 5K I'D CALL OR MESSAGE BYA DIRECTLY LIKE ANA SAID. THEY'RE VOLUNTEERS, SO MIGHT TAKE A DAY TO HEAR BACK BUT THEY'LL TELL YOU WHERE TO PARK. THE PORK BUTT CAN WAIT IN THE SMOKER, HA.

ALSO IT'LL BE GETTING DARK EARLY SINCE THE TIME CHANGE, SO WEAR SOMETHING REFLECTIVE OR BRING A LIGHT. AND IF ANYBODY'S BRINGING A DOG ASK FIRST IF THEY'RE ALLOWED ON THE COURSE.

yep the reopening is the worst part, sat in that mess before. id ask BYA if any of the church lots close by are open for parking, most of them dont mind on a saturday evening. and Ronald that pork butt will keep, just wrap it in a towl and put it in a cooler

Lori's towel and cooler trick is how my mother kept a roast hot for hours, and it works. Ronald, your pork butt will be fine.

On the church lots, I'd have BYA or the church office okay it first. A few of them have their own evening things going on, and nobody wants to come back to a blocked-in car. If you can park a few blocks off the Parkway and walk, you'll skip most of that mess when the road reopens. A short walk is nothing after a 5K anyway.

BYA does good work with the kids around here, so I hope they get a nice turnout.

Dolores is right about getting the okay first. A few of the churches along there run Wednesday and Saturday evening events, and the last thing BYA needs is a parent telling them someone got towed or blocked in at a youth fundraiser.

Ronald, on the pork butt: I smoke a lot of them and the cooler method is solid. Pull it at temp, wrap it in foil, then in a couple of old towels, and put it in a dry cooler with the lid shut. It'll hold well over four hours, and a lot of pitmasters say it's better for the rest. Just don't open the lid to check on it.

The MySaline page doesn't list parking or the closure details, so I'd email or message BYA. If anyone hears back, please post what they tell you here so the rest of us don't have to ask the same question. I'll edit the title if we get a solid answer.

Tina's cooler method is exactly how I do mine, foil then towels then cooler, and the hardest part is not peeking. I've had one hold five hours and still be almost too hot to shred.

On the church lots, ours usually has something going on Saturday evenings, so definitely ask the office first. Nobody wants to be the reason a car gets blocked in at a youth fundraiser.

I'll message BYA in the morning and post what they say here. Someone's gotta do it lol. God bless
